Banksy shared a video today of his latest mural on Vyse Street in Birmingham’s Jewellery quarter, highlighting homelessness, especially around the festive Christmas time.
With a contrast to the gold and diamonds found in Birminghams Jewellery quarter, Banksy’s video shows a homeless man with a white beard going to sleep on a public bench, with two reindeers stencilled on the brick wall, to look like Santa on his sleigh.
Banksy also commented on the generosity of the people of Birmingham, who offered ‘Ryan’ food and drink in the 20 minutes it took to create the video.
“God bless Birmingham. In the 20 minutes we filmed Ryan on this bench passers-by gave him a hot drink, two chocolate bars and a lighter – without him ever asking for anything.” Banksy
The mural has now been fenced off and it looks like Rudolf is in town as red noses are added to the Reindeers …
The music playing in the background as the homeless man sleeps is ‘I’ll be home for Christmas” by joy Williams.
“I’ll be home for Christmas… If only in my dreams…”
