Banksy pays Tribute to the NHS heroes as they Battle COVID-19 on the Frontline, Southampton General Hospital 2020

Banksy has painted a new artwork that pays tribute to all the National Health Service staff who are working tirelessly on the frontline to battle the novel virus COVID-19, which has taken the world into lockdown.

The one metre squared canvas entitled ‘Game Changer’ was placed on Level C at Southampton General Hospital in Southern England for the patients and staff to view on 6th May which is also international nurses day.

“Thanks for all you’re doing. I hope this brightens the place up a bit, even if its only black and white.” Banksy

Game Changer depicts a boy dressed in dungarees playing with a toy female nurse extending her arm forwards to mirror the superhero in flight. The young boy has disregarded his old figures of Batman and Spiderman in a wastepaper basket on the floor, as they don’t compare to the real superheroes looking after us within the hospital.

“So proud to reveal this amazing piece of art ‘Painting for Saints’, created by #Banksy as a thank you to all those who work with and for the NHS and our hospital.” Hospital chief executive Paula Head

After lockdown measures are lifted, the piece will be put on public display and auctioned to raise money for NHS charities, a spokeswoman for Banksy confirmed.
